cell4glue

Scientific workshop

As part of the Cell4Glue project, on Monday, November 27, 2023, a scientific workshop was held in which the project partners presented their research.

The program of the Workshop (shown in detail below) included 6 speeches by the project partners (AUTH, AUA, Chimar and Nanotypos).

Initially, Prof. Mr. Konstantinos Triantafyllidis gave a welcoming speech, as organizer of the Workshop and coordinator of the project (Department of Chemistry, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki) and then presented in detail the scope and objectives of CELL4GLUE project.

This was followed by a presentation of the project’s results by Dr. Antigoni Margellou, postdoctoral researcher at the School of Chemistry, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, on lignocellulosic biomass processing and fractionation processes entitled “Processing and fractionation processes of forest and agricultural ligno-cellulosic biomass”.

Eleni Psochia, PhD candidate at the School of Chemistry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, presented detailed results of the project on the production of nanocellulose from lignocellulosic biomass with various mechanical and chemical methods entitled “Mechanical and chemical processes of cellulose processing from lignocellulosic biomass for the production of (nano)cellulose”.

Subsequently, Dr. Dr. Erminta Tsouko, postdoctoral researcher of the National Hellenic Research Foundation, Institute of Theoretical and Physical Chemistry (TPCI), presented the results of the project on bacterial cellulose production carried out by the Agricultural University of Athens, entitled “Production and properties of bacterial (nano)cellulose from crude glycerol”.

The results of the project were also presented by Mr. Emmanouil Karagiannidis and Mrs. Eleftheria Athanasiadou, researcher and head of R&D support of CHIMAR HELLAS S.A., respectively. Their presentation was entitled “(Nano)cellulose in adhesive systems for composite wood products” and related to the synthesis and characterization of adhesive systems for composite wood products, using nanocellulose as a reinforcing agent.

Finally, Dr. Dr. Nikolaos Kechagias, Scientific Director of NANOTYPOS, presented the results of the project on the application of nanoprinting lithography for the production of composite wood products with hydrophobic and antimicrobial surfaces, entitled “Application of nanoprinting lithography for the production of composite wood products with advanced properties”.

The workshop ended with questions to the speakers and a relevant discussion.
